A State-of-the-Art Factory with Automation Across All Processes — Servo Motor Factory at FANUC Headquarters

The Servo Motor Factory is an advanced production facility that incorporates the latest robotic technologies. By deploying robots equipped with vision sensors and force sensors throughout the production process, virtually every stage of manufacturing has been automated, including winding, stator assembly, painting, rotor assembly, balance correction, servo motor assembly, spindle motor assembly, testing, and packaging. In addition, automated warehouses not only store components and finished products, but also function as a means to supply components to automated assembly cells. In such a manner, the logistics inside this factory is automated efficiently.

  • Servo motor assembly cells support high-mix production for an extensive product lineup of approximately 2,000 models. Furthermore, the entire process—from component supply using automated warehouses to final assembly—is fully automated, enabling completely unmanned assembly operations in accordance with production schedules. As for spindle motor assembly cells, automated and manual processes are combined. Motor assembly is automated, while terminal and fan motors are installed by humans. This optimal combination of automation and increases production efficiency.
  • For the αi-D series SERVO, FANUC employs the latest leak detector technology in waterproof testing to achieve the IP67 protection rating. Every unit is tested automatically, ensuring a high level of reliability.
  • In the past, humans performed tests for small servo motors, but now, test cells automated with the “CRX” collaborative robot are being used. Leveraging the CRX's ability to work safely alongside humans, the Servo Motor Factory has formed space-saving and exceedingly efficient test cells that boost productivity, reduce workload, and ensure consistent testing quality.
